This winter, Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) will be giving one-off financial assistance to some unpaid carers in Hertfordshire. The assistance will be given in the form of a voucher that can be redeemed at local Post Offices. Vouchers are expected to be worth over £100, with one voucher being awarded per eligible household.

To help HCC identify eligible carers, we have been asked to share some of the personal data we hold about carers registered with us. However, we will not be sharing the data of anyone falling into one or more of the following groups, as HCC have advised that they will not be eligible for this particular scheme:

  • Those aged 75 and over
  • Those who have told us that they are retired
  • Those who no longer care for someone following a bereavement
  • Those not living in Hertfordshire

Any data shared to help HCC identify carers for Household Support Payments will not be used for any other purpose. No data shared will be held by HCC beyond 31st March 2024.

Carers whose data will be shared and were registered with us on or before 4th October 2023 have been sent an email or letter explaining the scheme and giving them the option to opt out of sharing their data.

The data we will share with HCC depends on age of the carer registered with us. For those carers aged 19 and over, we will share their:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Age
  • Carer status
  • Employment status

For those carers aged 18 and under, we will share their parent or guardian’s:

  • Name
  • Age
  • Address

We will share this data with HCC in early November 2023. HCC expect to write to carers who qualify for a voucher by the end of November 2023. We do not know what criteria the Council will use to define who is eligible to receive the payment, other than excluding those mentioned above.

If you are already registered with Carers in Hertfordshire and wish to opt out, please get in touch before Friday 3rd November 2023 by emailing contact@carersinherts.org.uk or calling 01992 58 69 69. Please be aware that this will remove everyone in your household from receiving a voucher.
