But there is sometimes a cost (of providing care) to the care provider, which has been described as a deep physical, emotional, and spiritual exhaustion that can result from working day to day in an intense caregiving environment – this cost is known as ‘Compassion Fatigue’.

Compassion Fatigue usually results in a gradual decline in our compassion for the person, or people, we care for and the quality of care provided. As Compassion Fatigue takes hold, carers usually experience an increasing inability to cope / increases in anxiety / anger / sense of hopelessness / depressive symptoms…and others.
