Two new groups for unpaid family and friend carers will have their first meeting this month (August 2022) and then meet monthly - one is a reading group and the other an online daytime support group.

The Carers’ Reading Group will start on Thursday 11th August 2022 and will meet on Zoom from 10.30am to 11.30am. The first book the group will discuss is The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. Carers joining the meeting will then be able to suggest other books for the group to discuss so a list can be put together for future meetings.

The Reading Group will then meet the second Thursday of the month, 10.30am – 11.30am on Zoom.

An Online Morning Carers’ Support Group will launch on Zoom on Friday 12th August 2022 and meet from 10.30am to 11.30am. It will then meet the second Friday of the month, 10.30am – 11.30am.

Alex Daar, our Volunteer Manager who is responsible for our support groups for carers, said: “We have decided to set up the groups following feedback from carers and look forward to welcoming carers to them. They offer a chance for carers to socialise, relax and support each other. The reading group may even get carers discovering books they have not read or wouldn't usually choose to read.”

Alex reminded carers that they don’t have to buy the books being discussed by the reading group as they should be available from libraries and there may even be audio and online versions for those who prefer these formats. For Hertfordshire residents Hertfordshire County Council has a Carer’s Library Card that enables holders to borrow up to 30 items for up to six weeks rather than three weeks and offers reduced fees on items returned late. You can find out more at www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/services/libraries-and-archives/library-membership/carers-library-card/carers-library-card.aspx or call 0300 123 4049.

If you would like to join in either meeting, please contact us to book a place. Email or call 01992 58 69 69. You can find out about our other groups on our Carer Support Hubs page.
