We are planning to launch a Carers’ Reading Group and are holding an event for carers to learn more about the different ways groups can be run and be involved in shaping our one.Pile of books Pexels sharon mccutcheon 1148399

The event will take place on Zoom on Wednesday 15th June 2022, 10.30am – 12.30pm. A representative from Hertfordshire Libraries is due to join the session to talk about the different ways reading groups can be organised as well as the services libraries offer, including borrowing books online or in audio format as well as hard copies. Carers at the meeting will then be involved in discussing whether the reading group we are setting up should include just books or other media such as audio books, podcasts and box sets to as well as the timings and frequency of meetings and how the book will be chosen.

Alex Daar, our Volunteer Manager who is responsible for our support groups for carers, explained that the interest-based group is being set up as part of a project funded by a grant from the National Lottery Community Fund. The project has involved maintaining and developing a range of support groups for unpaid family and friend carers along with offering opportunities to volunteer and relevant training.

Alex said: “We have decided to set up a reading group following feedback from carers and volunteers. We hope this group will enable carers to get to know new people with similar experiences and interests, providing time to socialise and relax. It may even get keen readers to discover books they may not have read or found out about before.”

If you are interested in reading and would like to join in this meeting please book a place online via the event listing at or you can email or call us on 01992 58 69 69.
