Neighbourhood Watch have circulated information regarding phone calls being made by people falsely claiming to be from Hertfordshire Age UK.

A spate of hoax calls have been made with two themes regularly occurring:

  • The caller pretends to be calling from Hertfordshire Age UK, saying that the person they are calling has outstanding bills. The caller requests credit card or bank details over to phone in order to pay these bills.
  • The caller pretends to be calling from Hertfordshire Age UK, saying that they can help with clients’ shopping. The caller claims that bank details are required before receiving any support.

Hertfordshire Age UK would never ask for bank payment details over the phone for shopping. If Hertfordshire Age UK clients do receive such requests, please be wary and contact their Information and Advice Team on
0300 345 3446 if necessary.

We would like to add that Carers in Hertfordshire would never ask for bank details in this way either. If you receive any suspicious calls from someone claiming to be from Carers in Hertfordshire, please inform us by calling
01992 58 69 69.
