Carers reminded about Hotpoint and Indesit washing machine recall

Following action by the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS), Whirlpool is to recall and replace around half a million Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines. We would like to make sure that any carers who may have bought Hotpoint or Indesit machines with a Carers' Discount Passport discount are aware of this.

Information from Whirlpool and the OPSS is that there is a risk that the door locks of affected machines could catch fire due to overheating during the washing process.

The recall is for products purchased since October 2014. You will need to get the model and serial number from your appliance and check if it is one of the machines affected by the recall.

You should find the model and serial number on the inside of the door or the rear of the appliance. Then you can check if you have a machine affected by the recall by calling Whirlpool's UK call centre on 0800 316 1442 or visiting the Whirlpool website – Whirlpool website link.

Customers with affected machines are being advised to unplug and not use their machine until it is replaced and follow Whirlpool’s advice.

Under the recall, consumers with an affected machine will be entitled to a free replacement. Old machines will be removed and replacements installed at no cost to the consumer. Vulnerable customers will be prioritised.
