Changes to Young Carer support

A big change is coming to the support available for Young Carers. Find out more and share your thoughts.

The Service is Changing

Hertfordshire County Council has decided to do young carer assessments and support themselves.
Because of this, our young carers service will be changing.

Our focus will now be on the things young carers tell us matter most to them — making sure their voices are heard, building a strong and supportive community, and helping young carers feel less alone.

Activities

We will still run activities in every school holiday, including half terms.
There may be fewer activities for a little while because we are hiring new staff and looking for more funding. But we will keep offering fun things to do.

Please look out for our emails so you don’t miss anything. If we don’t have your email address, now is a good time to update it.

Wellbeing

If you are a young adult carer and you get our “Top Tips for Mental Health” emails, these will carry on.
If you would like to start getting them, you can sign up here:

We will also be adding new ideas and activities to our website to help you look after your wellbeing and be creative.

Our Young Carers Passport will still be available. We will keep working with schools and colleges so they recognise it and so it includes helpful offers for young carers and their families.

Young Carers’ Voices

We have just had our 2026 Young Carers Conference. We plan to have another one in 2027.
It might look a bit different, but it will still be planned and led by young carers.

We are also working on new support for young adult carers to help with things like getting a job, going to university, or finding other opportunities. We will share more about this in our termly newsletters.
