As part of Carers Week (10th - 16th June 2019) we are addressing challenges carers face such as isolation, financial pressures and lack of time to themselves away from caring and reaching out to unpaid family and friend carers to make sure they are identified and supported. We have:
• Published a new Offers Book for carers who have our Carers’ Passport Discount Card that gives access to savings at businesses, mainly based in Hertfordshire. We are also out and about at hospitals and other venues registering carers for a Carers’ Passport if they don’t have one. New offers include Hoseasons and Nando’s. The Offers Book (v23) can be found at www.carersinherts.org.uk/how-we-can-help/carer-services/carers-discount-passport
• Four Carer Support Hubs meeting – Watford, Borehamwood, Hemel Hempstead and Borehamwood. We have at least 16 groups across Hertfordshire that provide somewhere carers can meet up each month to socialise and receive information and support relevant to their caring role.
• Activities to give carers a break such as a Pamper and Information Event, a writing course, and a ceramics painting workshop.

Carole Whittle, our Health and Wellbeing Manager, said: “Just over 32,000 carers and bereaved carers are known to us, but we know there are many more in Hertfordshire – at least 115,000. Many people don’t identify themselves as carers, they’re simply supporting a parent, partner or child, that is ill, disabled, or for another reason. This Carers Week and beyond we want to reach out to carers, however they see themselves, so they access information and support, particularly if they are not already in touch with health and community services. This can help improve their health and reduce stress and loneliness.”
