Sixty-nine members of Verulam Amateur Swimming Club (ASC) took to the pool at Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre, St Albans, for a sponsored swim based on how many lengths they could complete in an hour and Verulam ASC sponsored swim 2019their efforts have raised much-needed funds to support our work with young carers.

The swimmers aged nine to 17, completed 7,410 25m lengths between them – the equivalent of just over four marathons - and have raised over £1,200 so far, from the swim on Sunday 10th February 2019.

Zofia Kozien, Head Coach said: “Our swimmers are lucky to be able to come and train every week, it’s really good for them to help those young carers who may not be able to take part in such a great sport. The turnout was excellent with all of the lanes at Westminster Lodge full of swimmers. Well done to all of the swimmers taking part as they all swam to the very best of their abilities. We would also like to thank all of the parent volunteers who helped on the night.”

Club Captain Finlay Hopkins, 17, completed 154 lengths and said: “I feel a sense of accomplishment about how many lengths I swam and it’s really good to have raised so much money for such a good cause.”

Linda Cudmore, the charity’s Community Fundraising Lead, said: “Congratulations and thank you to everyone at Verulam ASC involved in the sponsored swim. Your support enables the Young Carers Team at Carers in Hertfordshire to organise activities for young carers to bring them together, boost their confidence and skills and give them a break from caring.”

Verulam ASC is committed to fostering a friendly club environment where swimmers of all abilities can achieve their goals. Verulam ASC also run a very successful swim school for children aged four and over. You can find out more on the Verulam ASC website.
