carers week logo webThis Carers Week we’re helping to make carers and caring visible and valued

This Carers Week and throughout the year we work to ensure unpaid family and friend carers are recognised, celebrated and supported. We aim to ‘make caring visible and valued’ – the focus of this year’s Carers Week (7th - 13th June 2021).

This year, because of the coronavirus, people are continuing to face new challenges and many people have taken on new or additional caring responsibilities for their relatives and friends who are disabled, ill, older, misuse drugs or alcohol, or who need support. We want to ensure unpaid carers in Hertfordshire and beyond identify any caring role they have, so they access the support and information they need or are entitled to.

During Carers Week we are planning to offer a mix of online and face to face events. Any face to face events will follow coronavirus guidance and our risk assessments, which consider matters such as group size and social distancing.

Among the activities we have planned for carers to join in with are walks at King’s Mead Nature Reserve in Ware, some online carers’ groups are meeting and there will be an online question and answer session with representatives from health, social care and voluntary sector services in Hertfordshire about coming out of COVID-19 and plans for services. Details of the activities are below.

If carers want to learn more about any events or are interested in joining in any, please contact us to register an interest. You can email us at or call us 01992 58 69 69. Some events will be available to book online via the listing on our events page otherwise please phone or email us to express an interest or book on.

Please also get in touch if you are planning any events for Carers Week that we can tell unpaid carers about - email with details.

Carers Week is an annual campaign co-ordinated by the charity Carers UK, that aims to raise awareness of caring. You can find out more about Carers Week at www.carersweek.org and get materials to use for any event you are planning at www.carersweek.org/resources-and-downloads/

We will gather carers' views and questions on issues related to caring and services resuming as coronavirus eases and they will be discussed or answered by a panel including Carers in Hertfordshire staff and representatives from Adult Care Services at Hertfordshire County Council and NHS and voluntary sector organisations in Hertfordshire.

The panel will consist of Chris Badger, Director of Adult Care Services at Hertfordshire County Council, Beverley Flowers, Director of Transformation at Herts and West Essex NHS Integrated Care System, Mark Hanna, Interim Chief Executive at Age UK Hertfordshire, Sharn Tomlinson, Chief Executive at Mind in Mid Herts, and Vanessa Perkins, Client Partnership and Engagement Manager at Crossroads Care Hertfordshire North.
