Thank you for raising money with us from your home!

We know it is still challenging to hold fundraising events but it is a great opportunity to get creative with how you connect with others to raise funds and awareness. Below is a guide to make your Virgin Money Giving page successful and a few ideas of how you can have whilst supporting carers. Don't forget to check out our Fundraising Resources page which may help you along the way!

Setting up your Virgin Money Giving fundraiser page

The easiest way to keep track of the progress of your fun-packed fundraiser is on Virgin Money Giving. You can set a target of how much you will raise, collect donations from friends and family, and then donate it to us without having to count a single penny! To get going, simply visit their website and click 'Start Fundraising'.

If you haven't already got a free account with them, you will then be prompted for a few basic details to open one (name, email and address).

After that, it's straight into letting people know what you are doing! Once you've entered a snappy title - like 'Walking 172 miles for carers' - there may be a few generated suggestions of nationwide fundraisers that sound similar but you can always click 'Doing Something Else?' at the bottom if your challenge is unique.

You will then be asked for a few details on your fundraiser - when are you doing it, which charity is in aid of etc. Please tick the box saying you would like Carers in Hertfordshire to keep you updated on our news!

From there you will be able to make your fundraising page eye-popping for your supporters. Add a cover image as a beautiful banner, set a target to raise and write a little bit about yourself and why the cause is important to you. People will be more likely to donate if they see how much supporting carers means to you.

Enjoy yourself whilst you fundraise!

Book Club

Is your reading list still sitting on the shelf? Now is the time to fix that! Set up a book club (we recommend everyone donates to join), agree on a book and discuss your opinions once you’ve all finished.

Virtual Karaoke

Have some musical fun as you raise money. Invite your friends to pick their favourite songs, share the lyrics on a video call and sing along together (you may choose to mute yourselves so that you can just hear the actual song!). Everyone can donate to take part.

Quiz Night

Quizzes have been a mainstay of lockdown entertainment, so why not carry on testing your general knowledge as you fundraise? It is easy to set up and host - you just need to appoint a quiz master and get going! If you are quizzing others online, then you can dial in as many teams or individuals as you like. Each team can donate through Virgin Money Giving. If no one fancies being the quiz master for the entire night, then each team can bring their own round to test everyone else on. Agree on the number of points per round and maybe discuss who is doing what topic, then you are good to go! If you need a break from quizzes, why not give bingo a go instead? You may have a home board game equivalent that you can use, or there are plenty of free random number generators online. As long as everyone has paper to use as a bingo card, you're good to go!

Grab your controllers to raise money for carers. You could stream your game live and let your viewers choose where the game goes in return for a donation. Or even challenge your friends to a tournament with a donation to join!

Declutter to donate

Lockdown has been the perfect time to sort through your old books, CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays and games. Virgin Money Giving have teamed up with Ziffit, who collect the boxed-up items for free. The raised funds will then be donated to your fundraising page to then be passed on to us. Find out more here:
