  Please note: this meeting is for carers of an adult with a Physical and/or Learning Disability, and carers of an Autistic adult.

  Have you ever wondered if there was a different way to receive support and services from Hertfordshire County Council? Have you heard of Direct Payments? Carers in Hertfordshire are organising two talks (one in person and one evening zoom event) introducing carers to the Direct Payment scheme.

  Direct Payments – what are they?

  Direct Payments are an alternative way to organise and receive care – rather than the local authority providing care, a person (or someone acting on their behalf) can be paid directly to self-direct their own care. This gives greater choice and flexibility. Carers in Hertfordshire have asked Sam Wood-Ede (Direct Payments Manager, and advocate of direct payments from personal experience) to come along and give an interactive talk to carers. Sam will be able to guide you through the step-by-step process, with examples of when direct payments work well and the challenges they might bring up, as well as answer any questions you may have such as:

  • What are direct payments, and who is eligible?
  • How do they work?
  • What are their main benefits and drawbacks?

  Please inform us if you have any dietary requirements by Monday 13th November 2023.
