The service gives carers the chance to access NHS funding for a break from caring, which will have a positive impact on their health and wellbeing.
We discuss the needs of each individual carer before deciding together on the sort of break/relief that will make the biggest difference - it just has to be something which has a positive health outcome.
Carers have had gym memberships, complimentary therapies, weekend breaks, music vouchers and even snowboarding lessons.
The service is available for all unpaid carers of family or friends, including those who don't currently receive statutory services (benefits, paid carers), young carers and bereaved carers.
What difference does it make? A carer's story
"Before I had this break (a gym membership) in my weekly schedule, I never got out of the house.
I felt so isolated and could see no opportunity to refresh my perspective on problems or to get a breath of fresh air and socialise at all.
You have helped me to get things more organised. I feel healthier, more motivated and I enjoy life a lot more, having the reassurance of time to achieve something for myself".
