Festival organisers Hertford Town Council chose Carers in Hertfordshire as the charity to benefit from this year’s event and dedicated staff and volunteers raised £4,472 through donations and a fundraising stand. This was boosted to a wonderful £5,590 thanks to Gift Aid.
Linda Cudmore, our Community Fundraising Lead, said: “Carers in Hertfordshire had a fantastic day at Rock at the Castle! Huge thanks go to Hertford Town Council for deciding to support children looking after someone at home. Our Young Carers Service support children as young as 3-years-old and provide whole family support.
I would like to say a huge thank you to all the public that made such generous donations on the day. Your gifts will allow us to give these children our support and fun breaks, giving them time for themselves with other young carers. If you would like to know more about unpaid carers and our supporter would like to volunteer with us please visit www.carersinherts.org.uk email or ring 01992 58 69 69.”
Currently, just over 1,300 children aged up to 19 are registered with us and the money will be used to support young carers and their families. We organise activities to give young carers a break from caring, meet other young carers and learn new skills or develop existing ones. We also visit young carers and their families to provide advice to help reduce the negative impact of caring and ensure they have the same opportunities as their peers both educationally and socially.
Chairman of the Council’s Development and Leisure Committee, Cllr Jane Sartin, said: “Staging Rock at the Castle is one of Hertford Town Council’s biggest undertakings of the year, so it was fantastic to see thousands of people enjoying the event. Thanks to everyone who played a part in its success, including the musicians who gave their time for free to perform.”
The next Hertford Town Council event at the Castle takes place on the afternoon of Sunday 19th August, when there will be tours of the Castle and a brass band playing on the lawn. For further information about upcoming Hertford Town Council events visit www.hertford.gov.uk/events
