Friends Charmaine Terry and Chrissy Gale, from Stevenage, have been busy planning a Summer Fete in aid of Carers in Hertfordshire and Stevenage Foodbank.
The Fete is taking place at Hampson Park Community Centre, Stevenage, from 12pm noon to 4pm and Charmaine said: “We both have experience of caring but were not really aware of the different ways Carers in Hertfordshire can support carers. We want to help raise awareness and funds for the charity so it can continue to identify Hertfordshire’s hidden carers and ensure they have the help they need.”
Chrissy cared for her husband, who sadly died of Leukaemia 15-years ago and Charmaine has a disabled son and said her daughter, now 18, would have benefited from the activities and support provided by the Young Carers Service.
So far the duo have organised a raffle with over 55 prizes, stalls selling items for the home and garden as well as treats to eat or for yourself.
Twizzle and Twirl, the mascots of 360 Play, which has a play centre in Stevenage, will make an appearance from 1pm - 3pm. They also have a teddy tombola planned and have already raised funds at other event with a teddy tombola.
Chrissy said: “There will be something for everyone with a wide range of stalls and games. It should be a brilliant day for the whole family and we hope to see you there!”
Finally, Chrissy and Charmaine said: “Carers are the unsung heroes in our community. They save the Government millions of pounds but get hardly any recognition for their hard work and contribution to the communities we live in.
We especially respect the children who are caring for someone. Sadly, they are often not recognised or rewarded for their hard work and often miss out on things other children take for granted. This is why we feel it is important to support young carers and the Carers in Hertfordshire - Young Carers Support Service.”
They are planning a Christmas Fete too for December 2nd. For more information about either Fete please email .
