Welcome

Welcome to the Carers and Learning web page of the Carers in Hertfordshire website where we aim to keep you informed about learning initiatives and events specifically designed for carers.

An exciting range of free courses and learning events awaits, with help in getting you to venues and support with funding alternative care for the person you care for, if required.

Computing Course for Beginners

We are providing introductory computer courses for small groups with the help of tutors from Further Education colleges throughout Hertfordshire.

These courses run for two hours per session over four weeks.  There are rarely more than ten people in a learning group so learners receive a lot of support from the tutor.  The courses offered include 'Computing: Learn the Basics' and 'Next Steps with Computers".

On completion of the course, one family carer, whose laptop had been in a box for a year, commented "I can't believe I can email!".

Another said: "The course was excellent, I would recommend it to other carers - it has given me confidence."

Reading Groups

A reading group is a great way of sharing the pleasure of reading and inspiring us to try something different, there is a huge wealth of reading out there- would you like to share it with others?

As one family carer said of her ‘carer reading group’ that meets monthly in Letchworth Garden City

‘It is so nice to have something for me and to meet new people who have the same interest as myself’

For more information about carer reading groups in your area and to ensure we provide learning sessions relevant to your needs, please contact us.
