Is your life affected by the
drug and/or alcohol use of a relative or friend?

If so, then Carers in Hertfordshire can offer you the opportunity to Have a Voice and get Information and Support

Having a voice:

What is it like to care for someone who misuses drugs and/or alcohol? Use your experiences to help improve the way services are provided to both you and your relative or friend.

We can help you to influence the development and commissioning of these services by enabling you to:

bullet Meet other family carers and share your experiences
bullet Raise issues that concern you
bullet Talk to treatment service providers and commissioners
bullet Have the opportunity to be involved in the planning and delivery of events for family carers
bullet Train paid staff in treatment service providers

If you would like to hear more about opportunities to have your voice heard by commissioners and by the people who provide drug and alcohol treatment services in the county please contact our Family Carer Development Worker, Su Bartlett, on 01992 586969 or use our contact form.

Information:

We can tell you about:

bullet Who to contact for information about drugs and alcohol
bullet Local & national services which may be of support to you
bullet How to arrange a benefits check
bullet Holidays , breaks and how to apply for grants to fund them
bullet Local events that may be of interest in your role as a carer

Support:

We can

bullet Listen to you
bullet Help have your caring needs recognised
bullet Put you in touch with people with similar experiences
bullet Tell you about services to provide emotional support
bullet Talk through an individual enquiry and make suggestions about the way forward.

The Family Carer Development Worker post has been funded as a direct result of our report “Family Carers Views on the Future Provision of Family Support Services in Hertfordshire (September 2005) (PDF)
