Carer Trainers

Would you think about becoming a Carer Trainer?

If you would like to help staff, particularly in  health and social care organisations, to gain a better understanding of what it is like to be a carer, you might like to take part in their training.

As a carer trainer you would receive training induction and ongoing support  as well as payment, travel and alternative care costs. You would meet other carers, staff  and students from all over the county.

We need to recruit more carers with specific experience to become Carer Trainers from the following groups:

bullet

Male Carers

Would you be interested in talking to staff in health and social care to help them to become more aware of issues affecting male carers?  We have three male carer trainers who enjoy the work and find it worthwhile.  Considering how many carers are men, they are under-represented.

We would particularly value recruiting one or more male carers who are working or trying to work.  Working carers would need to be able to speak on an occasional basis during day-time hours, perhaps twice a year.

Carers who have Paid Home Care

We have been working with Adult Care Services to deliver training to home care agencies and will be doing more of this training from September.  We need more carer trainers to do this.  We would like to make contact with any carers who think that they would be able to talk to paid home care staff about their experience of home care for the person they care for.  You would need to speak about your experience in a positive way sharing both good and unsatisfactory practice and suggesting how things could have been done better to improve the quality of service.

Carers of Adults with Learning Disabilities who've had Hospital Admissions

We would like to hear from any carers with this experience who would be interested in to be involved in training staff in the Health Sector where we have ongoing opportunities in training.

Training to Become a Carer Trainer

All Carer Trainers have a period of training to equip them for this task.  Training will be organised to maximise the carer's opportunity to get involved and will probably occur over three sessions.  We have three dates for training arranged:  6th, 13th and 20th August 2008 and these would be daytime or evening depending on people's needs.  If these dates are not convenient for you, please do not let this deter you from contacting us.

Please ring us on 01992 586969 or email if you are interested.
